Workshop A

Mag. Dr. Friedrich Höfer

iPads and mobile devices as musical instruments

Nowadays, the use of digital media is regarded as a cultural norm which is fundamentally changing all areas of human life. Music teaching in particular has always had a close relationship to media usage.

With smartphones in their pockets, students can use their mobile devices as musical instruments. App stores provide many apps to make music, ranging from virtual guitars to drumsets. Furthermore, you can find apps for recording and editing music for creative work such as composition, songwriting and improvisation.
Fritz Höfer focuses his research activities on digital media in music education. In his workshop he presents several ways of using mobile devices in music lessons. The participants can try out and test different apps for making music together.
